ISWM INDIE PICK OF THE MONTHGlen Closer (band) - " Pine View Grocery "Energy that bounces off the walls. There's a lot to be said for the enthusiasm of youth. Harmonies are reminiscent of the 60's singer/songwriter era. Despite the light-hearted sound of the music, there are some lyrics with deep implications. Johnna White's vocals are clean, void of vibrato, and touched with a hint of restrained whine. Jim Baeszler's guitar is actually the 4th member of the group. While it doesn't hog the limelight, it's obvious that Jim's guitar skills give the band its shadow. And Joe Rubin's expertise on the drums adds a solid dimension of sound to this project. Nothing is overdone or overused. It all works together to make the music stand out. "Pine View Grocery" is one of those albums that you could play, and want to hear it again the moment it stops spinning. It is addictive. Kind of gets caught in your head somehow--just hanging in the crevices.
