Glen Closer is Johnna, Jim and Joe. Glen Closer is also the name of their second, self-titled cd, which opens with Get Up And Go, leading into Hung By A Thread. Brave is the next cut and the first to feature Johnna vocally. I have to say I'm a big fan of this woman's voice. She's just warm and personal in a Natalie Merchant meets Faith Hill kinda way. Wouldn't Be is another Johnna song, hence, a favorite. It's all good. 7 of 9 and Supernatural fall somewhere between The Knack and early Squeeze. Upbeat with a little bit of raw edge to them. Both of which, I like a lot. I can't let Uncle Uncle slip by. It's my least fave on the CD. It's a b-side in any collection. (As is the previously mentioned Get Up and Go.. but not as much as Uncle Uncle). It's a little tedious and, for all it's busy-ness, isn't particularly interesting. Ah well.. if all the tracks were perfect, it would be a greatest hits, right? The cd also has Branches and Leaves and The Sun Is Awake. Some of the songs have a pretty strong R.E.M. feel to them. A little less esoteric and more personal in theme. The songwriting across the cd is pretty satisfying. Mature but not obfuscated. That's a great place to be. Musically, it all works nicely and isn't wanting. I have to admit, my first reaction wasn't particularly favorable but it has really grown on me in a big way. I can recommend it and sleep just fine at night
